This afternoon Capcom announced the schedule for the upcoming Capcom Pro Tour, culminating in the Capcom Cup Finals in December.
With a successful season last year, Capcom’s Peter Rosas commented on how tough it was to bring changes, aside from the big shift away from Ultra Street Fighter 4, to the new Street Fighter V, set for release next week.
The Capcom Pro Tour is a series of events throughout the year that serves as qualifier events for the Capcom Cup Finals, a 32-man tournament with a prize pool of $500,000.
This year Capcom intends to introduce a two-tier ranking system, covering both regional and global competition. Top-ranking entrants from four regions, North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia, will qualify for the Capcom Cup Finals, along with twelve Premier Event winners from prestigious FGC events around the world.
Capcom Pro Tour 2016 kicks off in March 18 with Final Round in Atlanta, USA. Australia will get its taste of the CPT action with two ranking events for the first time ever: Battle Arena Melbourne on May 13, ahead of the OzHadou Nationals in Sydney in late August. Both of these ranking events will send winners to the Capcom Pro Tour Asia finals, held later this year in South Korea, as well as dole out ranking points for placing competitors.
