Capcom Cup 2015 Results, More Street Fighter News

Yesterday was Street Fighter Day at PlayStation Experience, with the annual Capcom Pro Tour drawing to a close with the 2015 Capcom Cup.

A fitting send-off for Street Fighter IV as a marquee game, Japanese player Kazunoko toppled Street Fighter legend Daigo Umehara in a close fought final. After having sent Umehara into the losers’ bracket in straight games, Daigo fought his way back to make the final, before capitulating to Kazunoko 3-2 in the decider. Full results, and more Street Fighter V developments saved for after Capcom Cup, are available after the jump.

A big surprise packet this year was unsponsored Brazilian player Keoma, who made it all the way to equal 7th by beating the likes of Snake Eyez, Gamerbee and Itabashi Zangief. There was even an Australian tilt, with Sydney’s own Humanbomb (now based in Hong Kong) reaching 9th before getting shut down by Snake Eyez.

After Kazunoko was crowned champion, a number of Street Fighter announcements were made. To start with, the Capcom Pro Tour would be returning in 2016, opening with Final Round 2016 next March in Atlanta. Street Fighter V will replace Ultra Street Fighter IV as the official Capcom Pro Tour game. Competitors in Capcom Pro Tour events earn points and sometime direct qualification to the Capcom Cup, so expect the best of the best to be there.

Also announced was that the team behind the miniseries Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist were hard at work on a sequel Machinima series, titled Street Fighter: Resurrection. A short teaser revealed Charlie Nash, sporting the stitches and staples of his SFV incarnation.

To further build hype for SFV, the intro cinematic was also shown to the crowd, accompanied by a new video of the full starting roster online.

Finally, a promotional video of the exclusive pre-order costumes was released online alongside all of that, showing off the “Sexy Ryu” Battle Costume that made waves months ago in action, as well as Battle Costume DLC for Chun Li, M.Bison and Cammy.
