WWE2K16 Adds New Moves As DLC

WWE2k16 New Moves DLC Pack

Hey, guess what? This website covers both wrestling AND games!

The first slice of 2K Games’ DLC commitments for WWE2K16 has appeared on PlayStation Network stores and Xbox Live Marketplaces, giving players 35 new moves to add to their custom characters, sourced from “a variety of current, retired and up-and-coming talent”.

So I look at the filesize and it says 1.1MB, so once again you aren’t downloading content, you’re downloading a small line of code that unlocks the content already on the disc. Kinda sucks. But anyway, let’s take a look at the highlights of what’s on offer, or you can just skip to the bottom for the complete list.

630 Senton

Appealing to the independent scene enthusiasts that buy WWE games just to add their favourite indy darlings to the game, the 630 Senton is a favourite of former TNA, Dragon Gate and Ring of Honor wrestler Jack Evans. A good add to the game’s repertoire, and immediately dismisses the concern that this was just to update a few current superstars movelists. Animated pretty well, and goes into a cover if you like that stuff.

Alabama Slam Facebuster

As someone that grew up with the Smackdown games on PS1, I kinda got sick of just how many wrestlers seemed to have the Electric Chair Drop in their movesets. I seemed to see that shit everywhere. This move reminds me of that, so by reflex I kinda hate it. This version, which really seems to be an Alabama Slam and a flapjack spliced together in the animation department, doesn’t do a lot to change that.

Bang-A-Rang

Not the finisher of ROH’s Dalton Castle, but in fact a big, goofy spinning facebuster. Could be a nice add for gag characters.

Buzzsaw Kick

This is what earned my money. Straight from the playbook of Japanese ECW, WWE, Hustle and Wrestle-1 legend Yoshihiro Tajiri comes a vicious roundhouse kick to the skull delivered the way only he can. I’m a mark for this guy, and I’m a mark for the Buzzsaw Kick.

Crossface Chickenwing

When I saw the name my thoughts went to Asuka, the wrecking ball currently mincemeating NXT’s womens division and her Asuka Lock finisher. But the version here is a standing variation without the additional bodyscissors. A little disappointing, but complaining about that feels a little petty.

Deadlift German Suplex

Because the game didn’t have enough German suplexes, right? A good move to throw onto a giant-type character, but the animation of it feels quite slow for what it is. Ends with a cover.

Firemans Carry Roundhouse Kick

I guess because 2K knows it will only get away with keeping a certain C.M. Punkerton’s movelist around for so long, they’ve put in an off-brand version that switches the knee for a boot to the face.

GTS/Penalty Kick Combo

And then they add a Go To Sleep variant anyway. After the knee the attacker comes off the ropes and boots a doubled over opponent in the head.

Hammerlock Armbreaker

A solid addition to technical wrestlers’ arsenals, and the animation looks like it genuinely hurts.

Inverted Alabama Slam

A slingshot, high angle Electric Chair Drop, known less by its original name Giving The Middle Finger To Rory The Saltminer In Wrestling Move Form.

Leaping Mushroom Stomp

Alright, this one got a smile out of me. Imagine Finn Balor’s Coup de Grace off the turnbuckle, only without the turnbuckle. Good if you’re planning to make Super Mario as well.

Prawn Hold

Most of the moves in this list are new finishers, but one that flies under the radar as a Leverage Pin is the Prawn Hold, essentially required reading for indy cruiserweights. Throwing this straight on my version of Ophidian.

Shouten

It’s Japanese, so pronounce it ‘show-ten’. Suplex lift into a Boss Man Slam, ends up looking like a counter-of-a-counter in that the opponent looks like he might be going for a DDT. Kinda neat, and ends in a cover.

Suicide Tornado DDT

Why this isn’t an OMG! move I’ll never know, but yeah, throw to the outside, dive over the ropes into a Tornado DDT.

Ura Shouten

A reverse Shouten (guess what ‘ura’ means?), the opponent goes up on the right shoulder, falling into something of a tilt-a-whirl facebuster.

Vertical Suplex Powerbomb

A big guy move that looks like it should be a little guy move. The suplex lift is so strong the opponent does a mid-air forward flip before coming down in a powerbomb.
