Of the six aftermarket Street Fighters Elena is undoubtedly the most exciting prospect, if only because she’s the only one not to have been in Super Street Fighter 4. It also makes attempts at theory-fighter a little tougher. Going by her Third Strike appearance, in theory she has all the tools to fit in well with the rest of the SFxT cast: namely time-consuming specials optimal for Switch Cancels and long reaching normals for easier Cross Rushes, and a selection of fast overheads.
Elena has the potential to be a highly team-oriented character; almost all of her specials (particularly Lynx Tail, Mallet Smash and Spin Scythe) are great fodder for Switch Cancelling, and provide ample opportunity to keep a combo going. These specials can be led into by any number of long range normals, particularly her crouching kicks. Strangely, though, a followed-up Spinning Scythe now launches higher than her dedicated anti-air, Scratch Wheel; in addition, Scratch Wheel’s recovery time makes it counterproductive at any strength except LK.
