Abel is more or less what you would expect of him from SSFIV, with a couple of key differences. As a character with multi-hit normals, his Cross Rush gains an extra element of unpredictability, and he retains his dash-in from MK, making him a character you don’t want in your face for too long. The new Shoulder Charge based on his old focus attack has a much greater range than I’d expected as well, making it more reminiscent of Urien’s Chariot Tackle from SF3. With it, Abel will be able to close down on opponents much easier than most other characters. Zoners will likely still have the advantage over him despite his new penetrative tools, however; being a charge move, Shoulder Charge can’t theoretically be used in conjunction with Marseilles Roll, leaving Abel vulnerable to projectiles if he commits too much to rushdown.
Another less useful aspect of Shoulder Charge is the fact that its EX version will not only wallbounce, but will combo into itself; this gives you up to four consecutive Shoulder Charges in a combo.

Marseilles Roll | |
| As an Abel player, you’ll want to get close to your opponent and stay there; Marseilles Roll is your best way to do that. With SFxT’s slower throws and only four frames of vulnerability right at the end, it becomes a hell of a lot harder to punish. Use this, maybe a Forward Kick dash-in if needed and you’ll be inside. | ||
| Crouching Medium Kick | ![]() |
|
| Despite looking somewhat awkward, its quick recovery, good number of active frames and very low hurtbox makes this a good go-to anti-air for Abel. | ||
