I’d like to reiterate that The Saltmine is in no way affiliated with Cross Assault or the Salt Mines segment.  That said, the show is worth watching, and you can do so at the link above.  Between Alex Valle’s expert tutelage and Aris’ blase approach to both teaching a game and to the threat of sexual harrassment suits, there’s a fair bit of fun to be had.  Just wish they didn’t take my name to do it.

The Shadowloo Syndicate have released a new trailer for their upcoming annual Shadowloo Showdown, in Melbourne Australia.  In addition, they’re pledging two more trailers; one each month until the event itself on May the 4th.

This year’s event will be bigger and better, with a whole new level of cash and prizes on offer including two custom-built Shadowloo arcade cabinets.  Winners of official Shadowloo Showdown qualifier events (including this weekend’s British and US events) will also be flown and accommodated in Melbourne to compete.

This particular trailers dropped a few big names making the trip down under: Naruo, Amiyu and Baikurimanda from Japan along with the winner of SS’ Japanese qualifier Banbaban; Korean qualifier winner M.Lizard and reigning Showdown champion Poongko from Korea; Australian expat and Hong Kong qualifier winner Humanbomb; Chris G from the US; eLivePro representatives Xiaohai and Dakou; and a strong Team Madcatz contingent featuring Tokido, MarlinPie and Luffy.  A line up like this by itself makes for monster brackets, but with two more trailers to come, who knows who else will join the starting roster?

Andriasang have reported a release time for the PS Vita port of Street Fighter X Tekken, now dated for fall this year.  What was more interesting was what the PS Vita build would come with:

But Vita owners can look forward to some big bonuses. The Vita version will have twelve additional characters. The Street Fighter cast will be updated with Elena, Guy, Cody, Sakura, Dudley and Blanka. The Tekken side will be updated with Alisa, Christie, Jack, Bryan, Lars and Lei.

While no mention of these characters coming to the home versions was made, it’s a fairly safe bet that these are the strongly rumored DLC characters coming for SFxT.

In what promises to be a very busy weekend for the FGC, Winter Brawl 6 is going down in Philadelphia.  Results will be posted here as they happen.  As a Road To Evo event, all players who finish in the Top 16 earn themselves seeding points for Evo 2012 in Las Vegas later this year.

Day one’s events at the OzHadou Nationals will be remembered in the hearts of both Sydneysider and Melburnian for years to come.  While many surprises came from the SSF4 brackets, including early eliminations for many of Melbourne’s elite players, the real news happened amidst the UMvC3 pools.

Sydney player KG, long outspoken against Melbourne’s skill in Marvel, had talked up Sydney’s ability to destroy Melbourne’s best Marvel players, putting money where his mouth was in a series of exhibition matches against Melburnians Ant Man and ToXY.  During the UMvC3 brackets, however, KG found himself sent to losers and then eliminated by Melbourne’s own Shadowfox.  This was then followed up by a team loss in the NSW Vs VIC 5v5 (including a loss against Ant Man), and an emphatic defeat in the exhibition match against Ant Man.  The second exhibition against ToXY was postponed due to time constraints, but today’s victories have proved that Melbourne Marvel has become a force to be reckoned with.  KG will have to do some serious soul searching ahead of his next exhibition match against ToXY tomorrow.

This week’s AOU gets a surprise guest, with Sega’s booth to feature Guilty Gear XX Accent Core +.  Considered the definitive Guilty Gear, Accent Core + found releases on the PS2, PSP and Wii, but this marks its first venture into arcades.

Seeing Arc System Works take this long to get into their back catalog is a bit surprising, and has gotten many talking about a potential Guilty Gear revival.  While in the past it’s been made clear that BlazBlue is the team’s new baby, talk of GG returning to the fold has grown in months of late, and a move like this could flag a full-scale comeback.  Time will tell.

UPDATE: Accent Core + will also see release on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live.
